Thomas R. Cox, AIA, NCARB, LEED-AP, Managing Principal for Durrant, is responsible for leading the operation and success of Durrant’s Madison, Wisconsin office. Over the course his 30-year career, Tom has specialized in educational design, completing over 100 projects across the country. His expertise encompasses studies, programming , planning, and the design of new schools, additions and renovations. Additionally, Tom has planned and designed a wide variety of building types including commercial, medical, justice and residential.
Tom is also a leader in sustainable design and works to engage both clients and team members in incorporating appropriate natural daylighting, recycled and renewable building materials and environmentally-friendly design. Tom also served as President of the State of Wisconsin American Institute of Architects in 2003. He received his Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Nebraska.

PLANNING Design Build
Ken Pientka, P.E. is Chief Operating Officer of PLANNING Design Build, Inc. of Madison. He is responsible for all business planning and operations functions such as Information Systems, Marketing, Human Resources, Business Development and Strategic Planning. Ken’s leadership as Chairperson of PLANNING’s Sustainable Buildings Committee, assures that sustainability is included in PLANNING’s projects and day-to-day operating practices.
Ken has been published locally, in Business Watch, ‘Green Building Saves Money (and the Environment), and nationally, in Building’s Magazine, ‘Sustainable Buildings: Real Costs, Real Value’ and in Commercial Real Estate Investment ‘Investing in Sustainable Design’. He has presented technical sessions, entitled ‘Begin with the End In Mind’ at the 2004 SE-Squared Conference and ‘Meeting the LEED Challenge’, at the 2003 Wisconsin Green Building Alliance Conference. Ken also presented at the United States Green Building Council International Conference in 2003. Ken serves as Vice President of the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance board, and has been an active member on Madison Mayor, Dave Cieslewicz’s, Green Building and Energy Task Force.

d’Andre Willis is an architect with Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc. in Milwaukee. She is a principal and project manager in HGA’s Arts, Community and Education practice group and an Associate Vice President of the company. Her areas of specialty include buildings for the fine arts, athletics and academics. She is a LEED accredited professional and a member of the AIA. Current projects in the practice include HGA’s new office (projected to receive LEED Silver), the redevelopment of the Kenilworth Building for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the demolition of old Milwaukee Tech High School with a program for recycling and reusing major portions of the building. d'Andre earned a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an M. Arch. from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She also serves on the board of managers of the Downtown YMCA. She lives with her husband (Jamie Whalen) on the east side of Milwaukee. She is interested in joining the board of the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance, serving through committee work, and contributing to the continued growth of the organization and success in its mission.

As Construction Executive for M.A. Mortenson Company, Cindy trains and supervises project managers, serves as Customer service lead for some of Mortenson's key projects, and coordinates the preconstruction and contracting process with Owners and the subcontractors. Cindy is part of the Leadership Team which directs all operations of the Milwaukee office. Cindy has over 18 years experience in the construction field. Cindy currently oversees remodel projects at JohnsonDiversey and Johnson Controls LEED EB gold buildings.
Cindy organizes Mortenson's green building through leadership of their Green Advancement Team. This team is made up of representatives from each of the six nationwide operating groups and the energy division (the energy division is devoted to wind power and bio fuels) to pool best practices, review new products, promote green practices and coordinate Mortenson's education and construction efforts.
Cindy is a member of the American Institute of Constructors and a Certified Professional Constructor. She volunteers time to teach at the AGC twice per year. Cindy is married with three teenage girls.

Josh Arnold has over 13 years of experience in sustainable development. He is trained as an advocate, counselor and analyst—all necessary attributes when working on projects ranging from green finance to environmental policy. Josh is Principal of 360 GREEN, an international sustainable consulting firm.
Josh moved to Madison, Wisconsin with his family from Portland, Oregon. While in Portland, Josh worked for the City of Portland’s Office of Sustainable Development—one of the nation’s leading authorities in high performance green building practice.
Josh’s professional training includes a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon with a concentration in Environmental and Natural Resources Law. Josh graduated from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon where he obtained his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts (B.A.) where he began his work in environmental science and sustainable development. Josh is an Accredited Professional of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System®.

Mark Ernst has been a partner with Engberg Anderson Design Partnership since 1994. Accomplished at urban design issues, he has been involved in projects for several municipalities in the Midwest. Over the course of a career designing a multitude of projects with a focus on Urban Design & Multi Unit Housing and Cultural facilities, his expertise in Urban Renewal is evident in recent projects including the Historic Third Ward Riverwalk; Beer Line "B" Redevelopment Project Study; Harborpark Redevelopment Plan, Kenosha, WI; and the Lake Express Ferry Terminal.
His commitment to sustainable practices is valued by local government, as is evident by his most recent appointment to Mayor Barrett’s Green Team. He has been asked to share his expert opinion in a variety of publications, most recently Wisconsin Builder’s August, 2004 cover story ,Clean Living, Industry Starts to Dream Green. Earlier in his career, Mark was Project Designer of the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) in Boulder, Colorado.
Mark is a member of, among other associations, the US Green Building Council, Congress for New Urbanism, Public Policy Forum, Regional Transportation Task Force, Urban Land Institute, Westown Association-Community Economic Development Committee Member, American Planning Association, and the American Institute of Architects.

With 25 years of construction management experience, Mike Hoyng has extensive experience in the planning, design and construction of facilities across the country. He has helped to put in place over $900 million in construction for healthcare, educational and development-driven clients. Locally, Mike has recently completed projects for the UW Health System at Johnson Creek, Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, West Bend Clinics and the Milwaukee County Zoo. Mike is currently providing construction leadership to the new $400 million Columbia St. Mary’s “Hospital of the Future” in Milwaukee.
Mike’s educational background includes a Master of Science - Business Administration from Loyola University in Chicago, and a Bachelor of Science - Construction Management from the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati. Mike has also completed the Construction Manager Certification (CCM) and the LEED Accredited Professional certification.
Mike’s professional affiliations include the Boy Scouts of America, the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE) and the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA). Mike has also been a mentor at the Loyola Graduate School of Business and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Illinois’ Graduate School of Architecture.
Mike has written columns for Healthcare Design Magazine’s entitled “The Contractor’s View” with special emphasis on partnering and procedural renovations.
Greg Thomson

Greg has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Carleton College (1992), a Master of Architecture and Master of Science in Historic Preservation from the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts (2000, 2002). While at the University of Oregon, he completed coursework for a Certificate in Teaching Architectural Technology. In 2001 Greg taught sustainable design studios and environmental control systems at Southern University and A & M College. From 2002-2005 he worked at Goody Clancy & Associates in Boston. During the 2005-2006 academic year he worked as an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he taught sustainable design studios and environmental systems.
His research into passive systems of environmental control and sustainable design studios have been published and exhibited at the American and International Solar Energy Society conferences and the U.S. Green Building Council annual conference. In 2004 he and a team of collaborators won the USGBC Emerging Green Builder’s Design Competition, and in 2005 received an Award of Honor for the Boston Society of Architects “In Pursuit of Housing” design competition. Prior to joining the UW-M Department of Architecture he was an active member of the Boston Society of Architect's Committee (BSA-COTE) on the Environment, where he was the COTE Co-Chair elect, and authored a response to the AIA's position paper addressing High Performance Building and Global Warming.

Tate Walker AIA, LEED AP is an Architect with the Energy Center of Wisconsin, a mission driven nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the built environment. Tate utilizes integrated teams and climate specific design to create places that enhance our community and the environment. He writes and lectures extensively on sustainable design, building performance, and energy policy. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance where he is a USGBC Heartland Regional Representative and an advisor to the local Emerging Green Builder chapter. He is a contributing member of the local AIA chapter, and a member of the Green Task Force for the city of Milwaukee, WI.
