Daylighting.... Light Every Building Using the Sky

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

·          Identify challenges of internal energy loads in commercial buildings in order to design compensatory strategies.

·          Articulate the 9 basic components of daylighting in order to develop an appropriate daylighting design approach.

·          Understand specific technology applications – including window treatments, interior finishes, fixtures, and controls – in order to apply them in building designs.

·          Define daylighting from an aesthetic and an energy perspective in order to explain the benefits to clients.

Presenter

Abby Vogen, Energy Center of Wisconsin

Abby Vogen is a senior project manager at the Energy Center of Wisconsin and leads the commercial daylighting and high performance building design and operation programs. She is currently co-leading the We Energies Commercial New Construction Program. Abby led the creation of the Energy Center’s Daylighting Collaborative and developed a technical education and design assistance program to bring a more widespread application of daylighting to commercial and school construction in Wisconsin and across the country. She has assisted the State of Wisconsin in writing daylighting design guidelines for use in all state facilities and  multifamily design guide. Abby has written and spoken effectively on the topics of daylighting, new construction programs, green building and sustainability. Abby serves on the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Architects Wisconsin and is an active faculty member of the Energy Center’s trainings on daylighting and high performance commercial buildings. She brings more than fifteen years of experience in daylighting, energy efficient commercial building design, program development, strategic planning, marketing, and public relations to her current position.
