Aldo Leopold Legacy Center

The Aldo Leopold Legacy Center has set a new standard in what can be achieved in sustainable design and construction. By visiting the Aldo Leopold website, you can learn about the design and performance of specific aspects of the project, and take a virtual tour of the facility. The following features of the Center are just a glimpse of what the project has to offer.

SPECIAL PROJECT FEATURES

Carbon Neutral: Learn about the center's carbon emissions and offsets.

Energy Efficient Design: The Legacy Center uses about 70% less energy than a similar sized building built to code. Learn about their energy conservation strategies, that include renewable energy systems.

Wood Harvesting:
The Aldo Leopold Legacy Foundation owns 33 acres of land that is currently certified in accordance with the Forest Stewardship Council Guidelines. After becoming FSC Certified, Aldo Leopold Foundation decided to harvest trees that had reached their full growth potential. As a result of harvesting of the wood, ALF made a conscious decision to build the entire wood-framed structure and wood-based finish materials out of the harvested wood. The Aldo Leopold Legacy Center utilized 78% of the wood-based materials for wood building components including structural framing, general dimensional framing, finishes, and furnishings.
